Pre-Journal Check In

Questions to visit before practices; yoga asana, movement, dance and music, cooking; etc..

Taking as much or as little time as wanted, ponder these questions. What comes up for you? What emotions, feelings, judgement, negative self talk, etc. Below there are emotional scales to help support recognizing certain emotions, the relationship of emotions and the frequency of individual emotions.

Please allow your inner witness to explore and allow the inner critique to kindly take a back seat. If a traumatic event is triggered, breath deeply and exhale through the mouth with noise and maybe even a forward fold or side twist. Maybe even shake and tone to release. Note that the emotion itself rides a wave of presentness for 90 seconds and then begins to fade. Emotions are temporary. Once they feel as though they have stayed, it is a clue that the emotion/experience may not have digested fully. Movement especially has the ability to help the emotion/experience to move/shift/digest allowing you to regulate back to a more balanced state.
